altafiber Tax Director in Ohio, Ohio

Position : Tax Director

Location : Ohio, OH

Job Purpose :

The Tax Director will report to the CFO and be responsible for all tax matters for the organization. The Tax Director will set and execute the tax strategy and lead a team of six. Also, the Tax Director will work with external advisors to ensure the efficient, accurate, and timely delivery of department deliverables. The Tax Director will constantly monitor changes in tax laws and the business to assess the potential impact on the organization's tax positions and risk profile.

Essential Functions :

  • Execute Tax Strategy:

  • The tax director will develop and implement the global tax strategies to forecast and manage cash taxes, manage the effective tax rate, mitigate risks, and benefit EBITDA.

  • Implement Tax Planning Projects :

  • Identify, quantify, prioritize, and execute tax planning projects in line with the tax strategy.

  • Identify opportunities for tax savings and process improvements.

  • Advise company leadership on the tax considerations around domestic and international projects, M&A activities, and global expansion initiatives.

  • Actively advise on transfer pricing considerations and cross-border transactions.

  • Ensure Tax Compliance is completed timely and accurately:

  • Provide direction and oversight to the people and processes filing all income, sales/use, property, VAT/GST returns, etc., and a high volume of telecom regulatory filings.

  • Stay current, perform research, and collaborate with external advisors to ensure thoughtful compliance with ever-changing tax laws, regulations, and requirements.

  • Lead Tax Reporting :

  • Responsible for the preparation of the income tax provision and related financial statement disclosures in a private company setting.

  • Develop and execute internal controls procedures.

  • Ensure indirect tax accounts are closely managed and reconciled.

  • Manage Tax Audits and Controversies:

  • Review all responses to inquiries from tax authorities.

  • Ensure that notice/audit inventory is closely managed.

  • Represent the organization in tax controversies and disputes, working with external advisors and legal counsel as needed, and negotiate settlements.

  • As potential issues are discovered, ensure that remediation measures are implemented promptly, and implement strategies to minimize tax audit risks and exposures.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting preferred

Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses:

  • CPA or JD/LLM with emphasis on Taxation required.

Experience:

  • 10+ Years

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience, including 3+ years in a tax leadership position.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations -- for both direct and indirect taxes required.

  • Demonstrated understanding of International Tax and M&A tax concepts strongly preferred.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and regulations and apply them to business situations.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior management, external advisors, and tax authorities.

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibility :

This position has one or more employee direct reports.

Work Environment :

This work is performed in an office or remote environment.
