Cincinnati Bell Network Engineer IV - Datacenter in Remote, United States

Position : Network Engineer IV - Datacenter

Job Purpose

Network Engineer will be responsible for network infrastructure discovery, design, implementation, and handoff to operations for network build projects. Also responsible for working and communicating with project managers on project status and timelines

Essential Functions

  • 15% - Network Discovery

  • 40% - Network Implementation and handover to Operational Support

  • 30% - Update/Author Documentation of implemented solutions

  • ITIL related activities (change, incident, problem management, CMDB)

  • 15% - Work with project managers for tasks/updates related to project activities

Experience

  • 8 to 10 years of experience

  • 5+ years of experience in designing/deploying/documenting data center network solutions for large (predominantly Cisco) enterprise environments.

  • 5+ years of experience in comprehensive project leadership, including a proven ability to shape winning solutions.

  • 3+ years of experience in designing / supporting cloud networking technologies.

  • Expert knowledge in the configuration and maintenance of routers and switches.

  • Extensive experience implementing and managing WAN circuits.

  • Expert level knowledge of routing and switching concepts / protocols (EIGRP / BGP).

  • Experience implementing / managing VLAN technology in an enterprise environment.

  • Hands-On experience in using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to plan for growth and diagnose problems - network analysis, packet capture, Cisco Modeling Labs

  • Must be a self-directed network engineer, able to work independently with sharp time management.

  • Preferred candidates have exposure with the following networking solutions:

  • Cisco & Palo Alto Firewalls

  • Cisco Meraki

  • SD-WAN technologies

  • Cisco ACI

Education

  • Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses

  • CCNP and CCDP, CISSP, CCIE WritTEN or CCIE

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Cisco switching (6500, 4500, 3750/3560)

  • Nexus 7k / 5k /2k experience highly preferred

  • Cisco routing (ASR, 7200, ISR G2)

  • Network IPS / IDS is a bonus

  • Cisco ASA Firewalls / F5 LTM / Cisco WAAS is a bonus

  • Understanding enterprise change control processes as well as ITIL methodologies

  • Experience using network analysis, management, and performance monitoring tools to plan for growth, diagnose problems, and determining traffic patterns.

  • Planning implementations, building comprehensive test plans, troubleshooting methodologies, and Cisco design framework.

  • Initiative and willingness to learn are keys to success in this position.

  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP v4

  • VLANs, PVLANs, Layer 3 switching, ACL's, Spanning Tree (MST / PVST), CatOS / IOS / NX-OS

  • Cisco Nexus vPC, VDC, FabricPath, FEX technologies.

  • Working knowledge of WAN and DMZ technologies.

  • Complete understanding of EIGRP / BGP / OSPF and managing routing in an enterprise environment.

  • High-level switching/routing troubleshooting skills.

  • Working knowledge of network and server bandwidth management technologies.

  • Expert knowledge of the configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls.

  • Expert knowledge of OCx, Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet / 10Gb Ethernet, and other bandwidth link specifications.

  • Preferable expert knowledge of infrastructure cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, MM / SM / OM3 fiber) and corresponding transceivers (SFPs, GBICs, etc.).

  • Special consideration is given to the ability to script and use automation to perform tasks.

  • Working knowledge of PCI regulations and audit.

  • Strong technical leadership with a solution-focused mind-set.

  • Expert troubleshooting abilities, able to diagnose complex problems and formulate solutions on the fly.

  • Strong documentation skills with emphasis on maintaining accurate network drawings with Visio.

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP enhancements such as multi-cast, QOS techniques, bandwidth and path reservation techniques.

  • Understanding / experience with Agile methodology is a plus.

  • Familiarity with ITIL based ticketing solution (Service NOW experience a plus).

  • Preferred candidates have exposure with the following networking solutions:

  • Cisco & Palo Alto Firewalls

  • Cisco Meraki

  • SD-WAN technologies

  • Cisco ACI

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibility but may lead work teams (assigns, coordinates, and checks work) for employees performing similar work
