Cincinnati Bell Virtualization Engineer IV in Remote, United States
Position : Virtualization Engineer IV
Job Purpose :
Capabilities shall include Architecture and Design capabilities for virtualization infrastructure and solutions. Responsibility for on-call /escalated support for operations of virtualized environments included but not limited to: Server-side virtualization, host-based post-installation scripting and troubleshooting in visual basic, and Perl. XML to datacenter orchestration interface building. Responsibility for performance and capacity analysis for physical assets that carry virtualized infrastructure.
Essential Functions :
Virtualization Architecture and Design -- 25%
Evaluate customer requirements and needs
Develop Virtualization solutions based on customer requirements and CBTS standards
Develop and revise CBTS Virtualization standards
CBTS Virtualization, Virtual Datacenter, and infrastructure orchestration - 20%
The subject should be comfortable with and will have responsibility or participation in installation, and provisioning, hypervisor infrastructure to guest side virtualization; virtualization technologies may involve hypervisor-based technologies such as VMware, or open-source KVM
Orchestration technologies include Java middleware applications driven by XML structure and SQL driven schema; the subject should be comfortable with XML editing, basic SQL operations, and basic shell scripting on a variety of operating systems; the subject will have experience in Perl and/or Powershell scripting, as well, and should be comfortable with scripting automated build of operating systems
Virtualization, storage management, and migration - 20%
The subject should be comfortable with the migration of storage for guest side virtualized environments, as well as infrastructure; the subject will be responsible for participating in planning and execution of storage pool optimization, live migrations with little impact to availability, and work during maintenance windows; a clear understanding of NFS, FCP, ISCSI, shared SCSI locking essential; a clear understanding of file systems such as ZFS, EXT3, EXT4, HPFS, NTFS
Virtualization, Virtual Data Center System Integration - 20%
The subject should be experienced with virtualization system integration and troubleshooting, including root cause analysis documentation
Other and documentation - 10%
Procedural documentation, customer documentation, process, and procedural review
On-Call support - 5%
On-Call Support for the above
This is still an emerging field. The Subject must be very responsive to changes in the industry. Continuous learning and improvement are expected
Education :
Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses :
VMware VCP certification or equivalent required
VMware VCAP certification preferred
Redhat RHES certification or equivalent preferred
CBTS KVM certification or equivalent preferred
CBTS Gluster administration certification or equivalent preferred
EFF Perl certification or equivalent preferred
ITIL V3 foundations certification preferred
Relevant Work Experience:
8 to 10 years in related field
Supervisory Responsibility :
This position does not have employee direct reports but does serve as a "lead" role for others doing similar work.
